John the Divine, as part of an NYC beautification project designed to improve the city's appearance in hopes of reducing criminal activity. It was designed by Heins and LaFarge, the firm behind the design of St. This Victorian Gothic station is the last stop on the 1 train in the Bronx-bound direction. If you’re looking to visit this special city and get the authentic Philly experience Quinta Brunson-style…look no further. The show has everything Philly adores: a chippy personality, the word “jawn” (which refers to a person, place, or thing), plus references to their beloved Eagles, and the Philadelphia Flyers’ scary but lovable mascot, Gritty. But how about we get some love for the city known for its ooey-gooey cheesesteaks and insane sports fans? Abbott Elementary is set in the heart of Philadelphia, not far from Lincoln Financial Field where the Philadelphia Eagles play. Sure, New York City is awesome and everything takes place there. I love a show or movie centered around the City of Brotherly Love because Philly never gets enough credit. Both play teachers in Abbott who deal with disaster after disaster in this neglected school - and it’s hysterical. There are familiar faces like Tyler James Williams, who played the title character in Everybody Hates Chris, and Lisa Ann Walter, who we know as Chessy in The Parent Trap. But Brunson’s character, Janine Teagues, is determined to turn the place around. The premise? It follows a group of teachers at Abbott Elementary, which is not the nicest school…or the most funded…or the most staffed. Like many good shows, it follows an Office-style format, where the actors are shooting documentary-style and directly addressing the camera one-on-one. However, the show’s cult fanbase and multiple Emmys tell me otherwise. Maybe just because I no longer live in the Philadelphia area, I’m missing home and resonating with the show. Massey’s other MTA proposals include launching a system-wide MTA maintenance campaign to upgrade subway signals, safety improvements and security, overhauling city traffic management policies to ease congestion, providing 50 percent discounted fares during off-peak hours and vaguely, said he would invest dramatically in roads and mass transit.Abbott Elementary is only one episode into its second season and it’s already up there with Ted Lasso for me. The winner of the primary will move on to run against Mayor de Blasio this November. Massey will run in the Republican primary in September, facing off against Assemblymember Nicole Malliotakis from Staten Island. But as most of us know, any infrastructure projects in the city take years to complete, like the Second Ave Subway, which took nearly 100 years to finish. A Midtown loop would connect Manhattan with the end of the G line at Court Square, through the E and M train tunnels. To return to Brooklyn, Lynch thinks a new East River tunnel under the Williamsburg Bridge would be needed to be built. Then when it reached Manhattan, it would use the same Centre Street racks as the J and Z trains. As 6sqft covered, a cartographer Andrew Lynch proposed the G should take its current Brooklyn route then head into Manhattan using the N, R tunnel. This is not the first time someone has proposed a Manhattan route for the G train. Proposed G train to Manhattan loop via Lynch’s blog vanshnookenraggen The candidate has said that bringing the G to Manhattan would carry riders to more “primary destinations,” but a lot of New Yorkers in these outer boroughs find plenty of hot spots nearby. While once a line to scoff at, since it is the only line not to travel to Manhattan and for its shorter-than-the-platform trains, the G train has become a sense of pride for a lot of Brooklyn and Queens residents. The G train’s last stop is at Court Square, where it turns around and goes back to Brooklyn.Īnother problem Massey may face with his proposed plan is the pride of Brooklyn and Queens G straphangers since it’s the only line that doesn’t go into Manhattan. Plus, M and R trains run local in Queens, making there no room for the G train. According to the MTA, the G cannot run into Manhattan with the M and F trains already running locally along that corridor. The G currently runs through popular, and increasingly hipster, neighborhoods of Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Bed-Stuy, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, before hitting its final stop in Long Island City.
